Welcome MM….I, LH have some questions for you 😉
LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?
MM: Believe it or not , I wanted to be an Air Force Nurse…I have always loved helping people, guess that’s how I got into my late in life profession…Fire Fighting.
LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?
MM: I would say it’s a combination of writers that I read, which is many. I was a reader a long time before being a serious writer. Jane Austen and Elizabeth Peters, who is a mystery writer.
LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author?
MM: Indie author but there is always that dream of some day hitting the big time. BUT the most important thing is doing what I love and that’s writing.
LH: As an Indie Author, I was hesitant about being with a publishing company. If you are an Indie author, would you like to be published by a traditional publisher and if so, why or why not?
MM: For me that is a dream to be published by a traditional publisher, but I also love the freedom of picking my cover, working out all the details… everything is in my hands. I will get out of it what I put into it. So besides being an author I am learning everything there is about publishing my own story. I am very thankful since I started back in 2001, self publishing and Indie publishing has come so far.
LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies! Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?
MM: Boy that is a hard one cause there are a few and I really had to narrow it down to a few but I guess…Jackie Kennedy and I wouldn’t discuss Marilyn!
LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest offenders. Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Which form of media do you think is the worst offender?
MM:Violence and sex or just the whole attitude is out there. TV, if you are going to have it in your house you have to control it or it will control your family.
LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?
MM: Violence against women and children.
LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?
MM: I still think covers mean a lot. BUT I also read the synopsis and look at reviews. There are a couple authors who I absolutely love and their books are romance BUT their covers are not like the typical romance cover. My two books so far are very different in the cover department from each other. One is very much a Romance cover, the other you would have to read the synopsis to know it’s a romance.
LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?
MM: I have always loved to write. Poetry, journals, letters and stories. I am very much a type of person who has to write. If something is bothering me I express myself a whole lot better writing.
LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?
MM: The growth of the characters, the evolving of a relationship.
LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?
MM: It could be something I read like a newspaper article, songs, a photo or painting.
LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on anything now?
MM: Yes, finishing up with One Thousand Years to Forever. I just got it back from my editor and once we feel it’s ready I will upload it to smashwords. The sequel to that novella is almost done. I also have the 2nd in The Kings of Angkor Series stewing on the back burner. I have another book on the back burner also. I am happiest when I have a lot of projects.
LH: I’m working on #6…3 are published and the other 3 are due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?
MM: I have written two full novels, one is published, one is needing re-writing. Then the novella will be out this June and it’s sequel, later this year.
LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?
MM: Fun. I love it!
LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉 They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing?
MM: So far my family is pretty supportive. The kids, even the younger ones are happy to share that their mom is an author. Even with the guys in the Fire Department they are pretty cool with the fact that I write romance.
LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?
MM: I just keep writing, whether it’s my book at that moment or a blog. I just keep writing and also listening to music which is a big help in that area.
LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?
MM: Read, read, read. Then, Write, write, write. Don’t give up and enjoy it.
LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?
MM: I would have gone into the Air Force so I could have become a nurse…
LH: If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?
MM: My mother, that I love her. She died when I was 5.
LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?
MM: Oh I am sure I would be jumping up and down, screaming at the top of my lungs. I would tell my husband.
