Welcome JP...I, LH have some questions for you 😉
LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?
JG: A princess! I still do!
LH: A little birdie told me you do more than write…it says you are actually involved in the publishing end of things. Can you tell us about that?
JG: After my mom had been an author for over a year she approached me with an idea to open a publishing company. I’ve always loved to read and had a lot more time to do so after I graduated from college so I decided sure, why not? So we did it!
LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?
JG: My mom was a major influence in my writing career. I’ve always liked to write but never thought of making an actual career out of it. But she eventually talked me into it and I’m glad she did! I love it!
LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author?
JG: I am a published author through our company, Limitless Publishing.
LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies! Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?
JG: I would invite Marilyn Monroe (love her!) to dinner and I have no idea what I wouldn’t discuss with her. I’d want to know everything! But if I had to choose I’d say politics because that would bore me.
LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and that Hollywood is one of the biggest contributors. It’s kind of ironic that we’re in the business of selling sex and violence. Ever feel conflicted and if so, why?
JG: I don’t feel too conflicted because sex and violence are both part of life. I think it’s the way people go about it that can really screw things up.
LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen…but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?
JG: If I could change one thing in the world it would be world hunger. I can’t stand the thought of all the small children in the world that are starving.
LH: I don’t have any business sense at all…I can’t even find my book marks half the time. How does one do all you do in a day on the publishing side and write as well?
JG: It can be hard to find balance between the two. I usually do the publishing company things during the day like I would a normal job. Then after dinner I spend some time with my husband and when he goes to bed I’ll write from about 11:00pm to 2:15am.
LH: I spend ¾ of my typical day marketing and promoting. The other ¼ of my time is writing. How do you split up a typical day?
JG: See this is where it gets difficult for me, because I’m not only doing the marketing and promoting for myself but I’m also doing the marketing and promoting for Limitless Publishing as well. So I spend the majority of my day also marking. Then I spend my nights writing.
LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?
JG: I guess in the back of my head I always knew I wanted to write. I always kept journals as a kid and I also loved to write papers in high school and college (if it was one of those papers where I could pick what I wanted to write about). But I didn’t actually start writing for fun until December of last year.
LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?
JG: I guess the main character is what interests me most about a story. If I can’t connect to the main character in some way then I have a hard time continuing to read the story. Or if they have a really intriguing love interest, that always keeps me wanting to know more.
LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?
JG: For me, an idea of what I want the story to be about usually pops into my head and then when I sit down to write is one the “movie” starts playing in my head and fills in the rest of the story for me.
LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on a book now?
JG: I am! I am currently working on the sequel to “A Summer to Remember” and I’m also working on a few other contemporary romance stories.
LH: I’m working on #6…3 are published and the other 3 are due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?
JG: I’ve written one book so far and it is published. I’m hoping to have at least two more published books out by the end of the year.
LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?
JG: I write for fun! I love to write because I’m such a creative person and I need something to fuel my creativity. The money is just a bonus that comes along with it.
LH: I began my writing career in 2012. When did you get into the publishing industry and why? When did you start writing?
JG: We started the publishing company in June 2012 and I started writing in December of 2012.
LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉
JG: They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing?
I’m very blessed because my family is super supportive of what I do! But when it comes to friends and other people I know I would have to say my biggest issue with people is jealousy. It’s funny because I find that most of my husband’s friends are more supportive of my writing career then my own friends!
LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?
JG: I’ve experienced writers block one or two times before so I usually just go to bed and sleep it off. Then by the next night, or the night after, I usually have a pretty good idea of what I’m going to do.
LH: I’ve had many, many jobs over the years. I honestly don’t know what I’d be doing at this stage of my life if I weren’t writing. What would you be doing now if you weren’t in this industry?
JG: If I weren’t in the industry I would probably be doing something in the fashion industry. I graduated with a degree in fashion design but I think I’d probably be working more on the styling side of things.
LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?
JG: Don’t give up! Even if you think your story totally blows just keep going and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. That may not be the story gets published but it’ll improve your skills as a writer to help write better books in the future. Also, don’t take the reviews personally! I’ve gotten to the point where I won’t even read the one & two star reviews I get because it will put me in a writers slump.
LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?
JG: I wouldn’t change anything! I love my life exactly as it is. And even the choices I’ve made or the things I’ve done that I wish I wouldn’t have, I’ve still learned good lessons from and they’ve made into the person I am today.
LH: If I could go back in time and tell someone something, I’d go back and tell the founding fathers they were doing a few things wrong…If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?
JG: I would tell Marilyn Monroe not to sleep with Kennedy! Lol.
LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?
JG: I would be ecstatic! That would be amazing! I would probably tell whoever would be with me when I got the news.
