Welcome NS…I, LH have some questions for you 😉
LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?
NS: I had three things I wanted to be. I too wanted to be a ballerina. I also wanted to be the first woman President and an astronaut.
LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?
NS: It’s interesting. When I was 16, I had an English teacher who really inspired me to write. That year we read Jane Austin’s “Pride and Prejudice,” and I enjoyed the books, so I read all the rest of her books and learned about her life during that year. That was one of the first times I realized how few opportunities women had had in the past, and how lucky I was to be a woman in the later part of the 20th Century. I knew from then that I wanted to write. I didn’t care what I wrote as long as I put words together to form sentences.
LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author?
NS: I am an Indie author with a very small independent publishing company. Again, we are lucky to live in such a time in the publishing world. It has really opened things up to so many people, and there are a lot of great books coming out of this Indie movement.
LH: As an Indie Author, I was hesitant about being with a publishing company. If you are an Indie author, would you like to be published by a traditional publisher and if so, why or why not?
NS: In the past that is what I wanted. Now, I don’t know what I would do if that opportunity presented itself. It is nice to have the freedom of not having to please a large publishing company.
LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies! Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?
NS: I’d invite Brad Pitt, and we would not discuss Angelina Jolie.
LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest contributors. Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Ever feel conflicted and if so, why?
NS: Sometimes I feel conflicted because, yes, I do think there is a lot of violence and sex pervading today’s society. However, I read a blog a while back that really made sense. The writer said how reading and writing erotica allowed her to imagine and enjoy her fantasies without anybody actually getting hurt, and that is how I view this genre.
LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?
NS: I would change bullying. It is so difficult to see beautiful children who have so much ahead of them being beaten down by bullies. It’s not okay
LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?
NS: I think covers are still important, but in a bit of a different way than they used to be. The other things that rank as highly as the cover are titles and a well-written description that entices readers to buy. However, the cover can sometimes make a difference in if somebody will click or not if it is from a writer they have never heard of.
LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?
NS: I have always wanted to write. As a kid, I won a few writing contests that a famous author from my high school hosted. His kind words about my stories further encouraged me to write. I went to college and wrote for the paper, and I did technical writing for my “career.” As life has changed, my “career” has evolved to writing from home, and I love it more than any traditional “career” I may have had in the past.
LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?
NS: In a story, I love to find commonality. I love it if I am able to put myself in the character’s place even if they are experiencing something I have never experienced before. The fact is, we truly do live in a small world, and we all have as many or more similarities as differences. If we could just focus more on those similarities than differences, we would be so much better off as a society.
LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?
NS: I have a bit of an unconscious process. Basically I have the entire thing thought through in my mind, and when I actually set down to write, it pours out quickly. However, I do not always realize that I am thinking through an entire story in my mind. Sometimes it can happen when I am working out or running or even sleeping.
LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on anything now?
NS: I am for sure working on plenty right now! I have at least three series ideas ruminating. Of course I am working on the next part of Victoria and Justice’s sexy adventures. That will be out soon.
LH: I’m working on #6…5 are published and the other 3 are due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?
NS: I have written a lot of different books, but often as a ghost writer. I have only just now begun to focus on my own personal writing, and I am loving it. I have at least three books scheduled for release before the end of 2013.
LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?
NS: I would say I write for both. For instance, even when I do not make money for it, I still write. However, obviously I have to live and pay my bills, so it is incredibly nice when something I write actually allows me to pay the bills. I would not be unhappy to one day become rich from my writing too lol.
LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉 They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing?
NS: I have some friends and family members who I know are not at all open to the topics I delve into with my current writing, so I often just tell them I write fiction and keep the topics from them.
LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?
NS: I would not call it “writers block” for me either. I have a similar “don’t want to” situation at times, and when I do, I simply work on another writing project. I just take a step back if something does not seem to be flowing or working for a time.
LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?
NS: Do not be afraid to just go for it! With the self-publishing available, it is affordable to get your stories out there to readers. Also, please do not skimp on editing.
LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?
NS: You know, I try not to have regrets. All the experiences, both good and bad, have gone into making me the woman I am today, and I love that woman. She is amazing, talented, beautiful and fun. I would not want to be anybody else, and I believe if something about my life changed then this woman I am would not exist.
LH: If I could go back in time and tell someone something, I’d go back and tell the founding fathers they were doing a few things wrong…If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?
NS: I would tell people how bad Hitler was going to be, so that he would never have been able to rise to power and exterminate so many Jews.
LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?
NS: I would probably tell my business partner first. I think I would really enjoy seeing somebody adapt my stories for the big screen. I’m sure it would be a major adjustment, and any ego I have would have to be left at the door.

LH: If you could go anywhere for a week, with anyone you wanted and no one would ever find out about it…where would you go, what would you do and who would you take?
NS: If I could go anywhere, I would take an adult sex vacation. I think I would go by myself (or possibly with a special friend of mine), and actually try to live out some of my tamer fantasies in a safe fashion. It would be on an exotic island near the ocean, and of course I would spend time writing in my diary about my experiences.
