Welcome  Dab…I, LH have some questions for you 😉

LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?

Dab: Ok let’s see a scientist, a master of some form of kung-fu, then something to do with computers. (which worked out as I became a computer technician and consultant)

LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?

Dab: I can’t say there was one. I was an avid reader since I was young, and a bit of a story teller.

I wrote lots of ideas down. Then one day an idea for a story start to finish came to me. I wrote it out and posted it on a free story site before I lost my nerve. Once I received positive responses (except that I needed an editor) I was hooked.

LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author?

Dab: I am Indie. A few friends read my stuff and one suggested I look into publishing. Then an author I am friends with (Indie) told me about Smashwords. After getting the story through there “meatgrinder” I pushed out two more that I had sitting around.

LH: As an Indie Author, I was hesitant about being with a publishing company. If you are an Indie author, would you like to be published by a traditional publisher and if so, why or why not?

Dab: I don’t know. It would depend on who and what they offered. I remember when I was young reading Piers Anthony he would always have a Authors note at the end and said that his publisher was a great help, so if I did I would like one like that.

LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies! Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?

Dab: Albert Einstein, and we would not discuss. Damn that’s hard … oh I know, Marie Curie and their rumored affair.

LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest contributors. Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Ever feel conflicted and if so, why?

Dab: Yes I agree. I even read a series of stories that I had no interest in before I let my 13 year old daughter read it and watched the movie.(sparkly vampires …yuck) but I digress no I am not conflicted because I don’t write violence for violence sake. Or sex for sex sake. If its in the story it is part of the overall plot.

LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?

Dab: Remove intolerance, I think that would make the world a much better place. That more than anything else would lead to world peace.

LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?

Dab: You’ll laugh but I was reading an article and it said that only 20% were influenced to buy a book by its cover. That being said I am redoing the covers for the books I have out, now that I know a bit more about them.

LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?

Dab: Not exactly, I was always a embellisher. When something happened my friends would want me to tell it because I would ad little things to the telling that made it a bit more exciting. Then I had odd ideas and thoughts that I wrote down. Put it together and you get a storyteller that writes stuff down or me.

LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?

Dab: The premise needs to work for me, not be believable because I read syfy and fantasy. I love a good guy who fights to stay a good guy (spider-man is a favorite).

LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?

Dab: For me it will start with a core idea and grows in the telling. With Princess Gives It Away it started with the thought of a dog out of love giving away an affair.

LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on anything now?

Dab: Yes I am.

Ok I wouldn’t leave it at that, I have 3 that are in finale stages. All with working titles one is a romantic comedy, one is a cheat/revenge with humor, and the last is a paranormal (ESP no sparkly vampires) coming of age thing with humor. Oh and humor in all of that lol

LH: I’m working on #6…3 are published and the other 3 are due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?

Dab: Ok let’s see there is Princess Gives It Away, She Found Them, and Something Bad out now. The three in final stages and about 12 more ideas that clutter my hard drive.

LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?

Dab: Fun, or as I’ve said, I needed a place to keep these sick ideas other then in my head. But I wouldn’t turn down money lol.

LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉 They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing?

Dab: I would have to say I didn’t want my daughters to have problems caused with what I wrote. Some of my thoughts go a bit out there. So I use a pen name and my real picture (my youngest peaking out of my jacket). I figure it will end up being one of the worst held secrets before long but that doubt will keep people from bothering my daughters.

LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?

Dab: No I experienced, not that story. Sit down to finish one story and another comes flying out of my fingers.

LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?

Dab: First and foremost get a thick skin. No matter how good you write there is a critic waiting to trash it.

Then I would advise talk to other authors most are friendly and willing to help.

LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?

Dab: Nothing worth risking the life I have now.

LH: If I could go back in time and tell someone something, I’d go back and tell the founding fathers they were doing a few things wrong…If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?

Dab: I would go and tell Lincoln the play is probably not a good idea.

LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?

Dab: I would probably say cool then run and tell my wife while bouncing off the walls

Thanks for that fun and informative interview Dab…Now… for the fun stuff!

Favorite Color? Red and black or maybe black and red.

Take out or Dine in? As long as I’m not cooking.

Camping or Hotel? Isn’t staying at a hotel camping?

Sports or Chocolate? Chocolate.

Dogs or Cats? Dogs, I’m allergic to cats.

Sex or Chocolate? (The answer “Both” is totally acceptable 😉 sex, sex is good, I’ll take sex… and if chocolate gets involved that works too.

And now for the essay part of the interview 😉

LH: If you could go anywhere for a week, with anyone you wanted and no one would ever find out about it…where would you go, what would you do and who would you take?

Dab: Ok this is where my credibility gets stretched. My wife and I’d go anywhere she wanted.  No kids. I’ve been married 17 years come November and wouldn’t change anything about her. She always said she wanted to take a trip cross country in a Winnebago and see the sites (Mount Rushmore comes to mind)
