Genre: Erotic Comedy
Welcome PB..I, LH have some questions for you 😉
LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?
PB: I originally wanted to be a Veterinarian. But after watching a few Bruce Lee flicks I wanted to be a ninja ( I acutally made it to a brown belt!), then a jedi-knight after well you can guess, but it really depended on what subject being talked about or what movie I had just watched.
LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?
PB: Same with me unfortunately, (to some degree) my mother was very…….very overprotective and didn’t allow me to do much so in my seclusion I would make up stories and characters to entertain myself. I seemed to live in a state of daydreams.
LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author?
PB: I am self-published awaiting “discovery” It’s going to be soon, trust me.
LH: As an Indie Author, I was hesitant about being with a publishing company. If you are an Indie author, would you like to be published by a traditional publisher and if so, why or why not?
PB: I like being self-published because I have more control, but I would like to involve myself with a traditional publisher. Simply because they can market to more people and have vast resources.
LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies! Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?
PB: Luckily I’m over the Depp (that blonde hair did it for me) or you and I would not be doing this interview…lol… but seriously I would invite the current Pope, I would love to sit down and talk to him (even though I am not Catholic) about everything current.
LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest contributors. Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Ever feel conflicted and if so, why?
PB: Yes I do, and it gets more explicit with each passing year. All forms of entertainment from commercials to cartoons contribute to the madness. But it is ultimately our choice to entertain it or abstain from it. I do think there should be stronger restrictions on what can be allowed for younger viewers. My only issue is I think some parents put the responsibility on the government to provide censorship for their children and I think we as parents should be more involved in what children watch and listen too. I listen to what my children listen to, some of it I don’t care for and don’t allow in my house but ultimately it will be presented to them, I want to be there to give a proper explanation.
LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?
PB: I live in the south so Hate would be what I would change hands down.
LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?
PB: The cover is very important. I know I am very visual and will try to get details from the cover and title as well…..speaking of titles?
LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?
PB: I have been writing since I was a little kid. If you’d met me in person you would never believe I was introverted (very) and shy. I would write because I was always by myself. I had so much to say but too shy to say it so I would write it down.
LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?
PB: The plot, I want to be excited about the book and what it entails.
LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?
PB: Mainly what I hear or what I am asked about as you will see with the essay question. I can be sitting or walking along and a word will catch my attention and I will have a story about that word. You’ve mentioned chocolate twice and I’ll have that in a poem or one of my characters will be eating it.
LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on anything now?
PB: Oh yes! A few more novellas to be released by December- January. Product line and numerous other things. That’s all you get…..for now, but if you want more I’d have to finish the first half of your sentence.
LH: I’m working on #6…5 are published and the last is due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?
PB: I have written 3, 1 is published. I will have another out by December
LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?
PB: I love to write but definitely want to make some money for my talent…
LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉 They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing? PB: Support. Unfortunately, I hate to say not one family member has bought my book. 😦
LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?
PB: I have experienced it and the trick for me was to reread my work and then I was able to see how it should be worded differently or what was missing and go from there.
LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?
PB: But of course! Don’t expect overnight success and don’t be discouraged, especially when you get your first snub from an established author or your first bad review. Trust and believe they are both coming.
LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?
PB: I believe everything happens for a reason and in its own time. But with that being said, I would definitely change how I thought about things, I would have been more bold in saying “no” to things I didn’t want.
LH: If I could go back in time and tell someone something, I’d go back and tell the founding fathers they were doing a few things wrong…If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?
PB: I was in the 12th grade and one of my classmates had died in a car accident. His mother was in the office picking up his year book and I didn’t catch who she was until she was leaving. I wanted to say something to her but I remember being told she didn’t like other races. I would have stopped her and told her I was sorry for her loss. There are many instances, but I’m still learning to be bold.
LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?
PB: I am actually practicing for that moment, so my plan is to be composed. (it would go like this) “Yes, this is PurpleBarbi? Tyler Perry? Oh yes I’ve heard of you and I really enjoy your work. A meeting with you and Oprah? Sure I can manage that, I’ll let your assistant talk to mine (who would be me after a voice change )and we can definitely work that out. Okay, yes I look forward to meeting you too. Goodbye.” Then I would call Moe Deniro, and blast her eardrums to pieces…lol. She has been a true friend and supported my every move.

LH: If you could go anywhere for a week, with anyone you wanted and no one would ever find out about it…where would you go, what would you do and who would you take?
PB: I would go by myself to China. I would walk the Great Wall and visit the botanical gardens. I would rest and pray and let go of some hurt I have going on in the inside of this Purple Barbie Doll. I would shop the local markets and after a misinterpretation of my words that I read from the Chinese American translation book, I would awkwardly smiled and try to agree with an elderly woman as she covered her toothless smile and nodded. Before frustration set in I’d feel a hand on my shoulder. I’d turn to see him…..his face was kind as he pointed to the fruit I was asking for and not the u-um embarrassing thing I was not. And then he was gone, I caught a final glimpse of him over the shoulders he brushed by. I quickly paid…overpaid in my attempt to catch up to him. Warm rain soothed my disappointment. “Wǒ zài zhèlǐ” I heard from behind me, I turned into a kiss just as warm as the rain. Opening my eyes I meet his stare, my beautiful stranger. “I looked for you” I managed to get out between kisses and twirls as we moved out of view of the market. “Gēn wǒ lái” I would followed him, into my unknown future. No one seemed to notice us. It took me hours to find that market and in mere minutes we were back at my hotel. He shooed me gently gesturing me to go, when I closed the room door on the balcony he stood. I pressed my hand over his through the window and opened it. I dreamed of him for months, I finally worked up the nerve to look up his final words as I watched him from the rear window of the Chūzū chē. “Qù Shēnghuó Tóng Wǒ Zài nǐ de xīn” He said with a final kiss. I thought I would never see him again. There was a new exhibit at the museum, “Fallen Dynasties” Men of war who were shunned for the love choices they made. Through tears I reached for painting “No touching!” The curator demanded. “W-What does it say?” I asked. “It does bring tears to the eyes doesn’t it” He said smugly. “Oh? And interestingly enough…Beautiful Stranger” He answered after checking its bio. This one was killed for loving an African princess.”
