Welcome SV…I, LH have some questions for you 😉
LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?
SV: That’s hilarious! I wanted (ok, still want) to be a private investigator! I also wanted to be an actress and model (both of which I have done/am doing).
LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?
SV: I was the same way; I started writing as a child. My parents encouraged me and bought me tons of spiral notebooks for my stories. My mom probably still has some of them saved in the basement.
LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author?
SV: I am an Indie author!
LH: As an Indie Author, I was hesitant about being with a publishing company. If you are an Indie author, would you like to be published by a traditional publisher and if so, why or why not?
SV: I would really have to think about it. Having someone else pushing and marketing my books would be great, however, I love having complete control of my books as an Indie, so it would be a long thought process if I were approached.
LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies! Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?
SV: I think I would invite my birth parents. I would not discuss why they gave me up for adoption (I already know why, and I had a great adoptive family so I can thank them for that). I would be more interested in everything leading up to that, rather than the adoption itself.
LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest contributors. Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Ever feel conflicted and if so, why?
SV: I agree there is a lot of sex and violence. I can’t stand how almost every commercial today uses sex or sexual innuendo to sell their product. There is a time and place for both sex and violence but being saturated with it is wholly unnecessary. During the writing process of my book, I felt a bit conflicted here and there, as it is a romance and there is sex in it. My husband pointed out that my scenes were healthy and romantic, there was no violence and the sex is not a *major* factor in the story, so I felt better.
LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?
SV: I would want everyone to have enough food and healthcare.
LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?
SV: I like a cover that draws the eye, but I think the content speaks louder than the cover.
LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?
SV: I have been writing since I was seven years old, so I guess I could say that I’ve always wanted to write.
LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?
SV: I love characters and scenery. I can’t finish a book if I can’t “see” it.
LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?
SV: I will usually get an a-ha moment and run to my computer to start writing. That happened with three of my WIPs! I may not have the whole story, but I’ll get a good portion of ideas for it and have to type them up before I forget them!
LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on anything now?
SV: Kill you. Yes, I am working on a paranormal mystery series. I am on the first book of it, which takes place at a California university and revolves around a young Gypsy college student, her best friend/roommate, and their spirit friend. They work together to help solve a mystery that occurs on campus. I’m hoping to release the first book of the series in early to mid 2014.
LH: I’m working on #6…5 are published and the last is due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?
SV: The Fantastical Life of Serenity: Epilogue will be my 2nd published book. I am currently working on the paranormal mystery (book one), a fantasy-comedy with my husband and have the beginnings of several other books.
LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?
SV: I write because I love being creative, having people buy my books doesn’t hurt though!
LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉 They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing?
SV: So far, it is my Mom not being able to read my upcoming book! She doesn’t want to read the sex lol. I told her to get a paperback and I would sharpie out the “good parts”. She laughed and said that might work!
LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?
SV: Oh yes, I have! Luckily, I have more than one WIP so if I hit a block, I go to another WIP and work on it until the block is gone for my main one.
LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?
SV: Always network, get to know other authors! Indie authors especially seem to always be willing to help with advice for someone new to writing/publishing.
LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?
SV: Ha ha, only one thing? Ok, um…I would figure out a way to have a bigger chest!
LH: If I could go back in time and tell someone something, I’d go back and tell the founding fathers they were doing a few things wrong…If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?
SV: I would go back to 2008 and tell my husband to take me to Korea with him (we weren’t married or even dating at the time).
LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?
SV: I would probably go running down my street (after I told my family), shouting about it. I am not shy and would be telling everyone. I’d probably want to play myself too, lol.
