Welcome  KR…I, LH have some questions for you 😉

LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing.  Who influenced you in your writing career?

KR: My first influence was my aunt, Margot Russell, who published a collection of stories about life with multiple sclerosis. She knew I was writing constantly from the time I could hold a pen – it was in my blood. When I was eleven, she asked me, “Are you ready to write your book?” With her encouragement, I compiled stories by and about people living with cystic fibrosis called With Every Breath, though it took several years to publish! As for my fiction, it’s heavily influenced and inspired by authors with lyrical style like Arundhati Roy, Edwidge Danticat, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher.  Are you an Indie or published author?

KR: I self-published my poetry book because I wanted full control over its production and promotion. With the book With Every Breath, I was sponsored by Boomer Esiason Foundation to self-publish, but that was before Amazon made it so easy! As for my novel, Without Shame, I’m currently seeking out a traditional publisher.

LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest offenders.   Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Which form of media do you think is the worst offender?

KR: Agreed! What confuses me, though, is a TV-show can’t say a curse word or show a naked body, but it can graphically show a human getting his head bashed in (ahem, The Walking Dead). At the same time, we sexualize nearly every advertisement, assigning gender expectations through a camera lens. It has fostered a very insecure nation – men who think they have to always be chasing sex, and women who think if they’re not being chased there’s something wrong with them. I’d like to write a whole book on our media’s confused approach to the human body. We’re pretty twisted.

LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen I truly would have world peace in the blink of an eye.                          If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?

KR: I’d bring Twinkies back. Kidding. I think I’d ask for more selfless leaders. Power attracts the ruthless and greedy. If leaders put their people before themselves, we wouldn’t have situations like famine in North Korea or hundreds of miners dying in China every day.

LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”.  How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?

KR: I think there are more important things about a book and its promotion, for sure. But I do think there’s something to be said for an eye-catching cover! Nowadays, instead of browsing the spines of books in a store and pulling one from the shelf to read the back cover, people are quickly scrolling through their browser and maybe only catching a glimpse of your title in a millisecond. You want that millisecond to count, catch their eye instantly. The market is just inundated, and people don’t have a lot else to go on when browsing. If a cover looks cheap, they might assume the writing is cheap. If it looks interesting, they might go as far as reading the description of your book. By the way, Leanna, your covers are killer!

LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol  Are you working on anything now?

KR: I’m working on getting an agent for Without Shame, which is a novel about an American who comes to teach in pre-independent Bangladesh, and he meets a Bengali woman who is waiting for a revolution. I’ve also started a collection of flash fiction pieces about survival and our coping mechanisms. It’s called The Magic of Healing.

LH: I’m working on #6…3 are published and the other 3 are due out this year.  How many books have you written? How many have been published?

KR: I was asked to write a romance novel for a start-up publisher called Senserial Publishers. It’s an episodic travel romance called Love Around the World. Things I’ve self-published are my books about life with cystic fibrosis: With Every Breath, and my poetry collection on coming of age with chronic illness, Shapes of Water. Then I’ve written Without Shame, which hopefully in the near future will be published!

LH: I have never experienced it. I have experienced writers “don’t want to”…Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?

KR: Not often, but when I do, I read about something interesting. It stimulates me to think and learn something new – something I might be able to write about! I try to make writing a daily habit instead of relying on the “ahah!” moments. Sometimes beating writer’s block is merely a matter of sitting down and forcing myself to write something.

LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”…Do you?

KR: My advice is to read as much as you can. See what is being published and learn from what those writers have to offer.

LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did…

If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?

KR: I’m too afraid to mess with the past. Learned that from The Butterfly Effect. But really, like you seem to do, I always try to remember that both good and bad things have shaped me into who I am today, so if I can accept and love myself, there’s no regretting the past.

KR…you are not only funny, you are an inspiration!…Now… for the fun stuff!

Favorite Beverage? Chai

Exercise or Bubble Bath? Bubble Bath!

Favorite Color? Daffodil Yellow

Sports or Chocolate? Chocolate

Dogs or Cats? Dogs – I have a Bichon Poodle

Favorite Food? Ethiopian (seriously, I eat it about once a week)

Favorite Song? Chopin Opus 9/Nocturne 1 – also, Electric Feel by MGMT

Favorite Movie? Ratatouille – it just makes me feel good!

Favorite Car? Jeep, not that I can afford any car at this juncture

Sex or Chocolate? (The answer “Both” is totally acceptable 😉 Sex, but I’m not opposed to chocolate being incorporated

And now for the essay part of the interview 😉

If you could go anywhere for a week, with anyone you wanted and no one would ever find out about it…where would you go and who would you take?

KR: I’ve always dreamed of Costa Rica, and I’d take the love of my life with me. It would be a huge benefit if his boss didn’t find out he missed a week of work. (To paint a fuller picture: my boyfriend is a first-year accountant with very long hours!). I’d go to see the sea turtles hatch and make their way back into the ocean.

Dear Mr. President

Miriam CareyDear Mr. President,

How did you sleep last night in your king sized bed with your Egyptian cotton sheets? Well I hope. I can’t say I slept so well myself. I dreamed I was surrounded by police, guns drawn and shots were being fired into my car. No words were said but as the life ebbed out of my body, I could see cold, dead eyes. They were your eyes sir. You had the same smile on your face that I’ve seen in all of your pictures and on television. Did you have that same smile on your face when the Secret Service called and told you they had murdered Miriam Carey? That is exactly what it was, murder.

I don’t know how many episodes of “Cops” you’ve seen with the endless vacations you take but in every single episode, once they have the vehicle “boxed in” as they did in Ms. Carey’s case, they order the suspect to show their hands, remove the suspect from the vehicle and then arrest them. Maybe then we’d know why she did what she did. Did she have a medical condition? Was she suffering from postpartum depression like her mother said? Did she have some other form of mental illness? We will never know especially in the case of this woman who had a year old baby in the backseat of her car. She was not innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I was under the assumption that all US citizens were innocent until proven in a court of law. I guess that’s no longer the case. It was shoot first and don’t worry about asking questions…the baby won’t say anything. It’s sickening!

I could say I’m saddened but that is not even close. I am outraged. I am outraged at so many things. I am outraged that we will never know the whole story about anything on your watch. Our media is not allowed to tell us the truth. Our elected figures will not tell us the truth because well, they are politicians and they couldn’t tell us the truth if their lives depended on it and the American people have been blinded to it for so long it’s not funny.

I do want to say that I think the time has come. With you folding your arms across your chest, digging your heals in and refusing to cooperate with the others to keep the government open and benefits and other essential programs running, you have shown us that you want to bully everyone into submission. What would you do if our troops laid down their weapons and went home to their families and got civilian jobs? You can’t kill them and you can’t try them for treason because you will have broken their contract.

What would you do if Americans stopped buying anything, anywhere two or three days a week? That would bring you to your knees pretty quickly wouldn’t it? How about if people refused to work? Business refused to open to show you that “We the people” own this country, not you and your cronies? That might make an impact and show  you that you are directly affecting the lives of the very people who make this country run.

I am the daughter of a Korean Prisoner of War. He was in a hole in the ground eating dirty rice when he got to eat for 2 years and six days defending the country he loved. I’m sure he’s rolling in his grave at what’s going on now. I am also the mother of a US Marine who  is disgusted by what you’ve done when it comes to not taking care of your own in so many ways. I am disabled and cannot get the benefits I am entitled to due to you shutting down the Federal Government. I did notice that Camp David is still open and available for your pleasure. Funny how two faced you really can be.

When you were voted into office I was hopefully optimistic to the change that I thought you’d bring with you. Now I am hopefully optimistic to your replacement undoing the damage and havoc you have caused not only with our country but with the world.

I was a writer until Rheumatoid Arthritis took over my life. I know that you monitor everything I do and say. I know that your “Men in Black” can show up at my door at any time and that I could disappear at anytime. My friends, family, followers and fans all know about this letter and have been instructed to give it to all media outlets if I go “missing.”

In closing Sir, I would like to say, you have no idea how the private sector is doing. We are all worried. We are all struggling. We are all wondering when we’ll be going without food, shelter and clothing. You keep that in mind the next time you get on Air Force One and set off for your next of many vacations. I personally raised 4 strong, smart, contributing members of society with little child support and have never had a vacation.

I certainly hope you take some of my words to heart and stop this ridiculous power struggle and let our government, such as it is, govern.

Welcome SS…I, LH have some questions for you 😉

LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?

SS: I have always loved literature and desired to work in that field somehow.

LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?

SS:  I honestly am in the same boat that you are, no one influenced me as I have always had an innate love of literature

LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author? SS: I’m an Indie

LH: As an Indie Author, I was hesitant about being with a publishing company. If you are an Indie author, would you like to be published by a traditional publisher and if so, why or why not?

SS: I think so, because I believe that it gives credibility and that they can promote your work effectively.

LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies! Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?

SS: Marilyn Monroe and I wouldn’t discuss drugs…

LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest offenders. Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Which form of media do you think is the worst offender?

SS: How can I judge that and I write erotica/crime fiction?

LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?

SS: End Hunger!

LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?

SS: I do my own covers so I hope it’s all good.

Personally I go by the sample read.

LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?

SS: I started writing short stories on a blog two years ago and I have always wanted to write

LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?

SS: I like feisty women and men that know how to handle them.

LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?

SS: I stay motivated, I can’t keep up with all of my ideas.

I have a very vivid imagination.

LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on anything now?

SS: I’m always working on something..

LH: I’m working on #6…3 are published and the other 3 are due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?

SS: 21 published e-books on Amazon

LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?

SS: Both but I have to write to stay sane.

LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉 They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing?

SS: I write under a pen name and if it blows up like 50 shades did then I will say, “To heck with it.”

LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?

SS: No, I stay motivated..

LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?

SS: Do it for the love of the art first and foremost.

LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?

SS: I honestly don’t think that I would change anything because it has made me who I am today.

LH: If I could go back in time and tell someone something, I’d go back and tell the founding fathers they were doing a few things wrong…If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?

SS: I would probably tell society as a whole about the internet but who would believe that technology would advance to the point that it has?

LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?

SS: No, I am used to dealing with the public so it wouldn’t bother me, I would just do more philanthropy work…

Thank you for that interesting interview SS…Now… for the fun stuff!

Favorite Beverage? Milk

Exercise or Bubble Bath? Excercise

Favorite Color? I don’t have one.

Take out or Dine in? Dine in

Camping or Hotel? Hotel

Favorite Food? I’m moody

Favorite Song? Unchain my heart among others by artists such as Nina Simone and Etta James

Favorite Movie? GI Jane

Favorite Car? I’m moody on that too.

Sex or Chocolate? (The answer “Both” is totally acceptable 😉

LH: If you could go anywhere for a week, with anyone you wanted and no one would ever find out about it…where would you go, what would you do and who would you take?

SS: I would find my character James and go tropical, anywhere tropical…

Catfish

I have been inundated with “Catfish” lately. I have decided that the only way to fight them is with this. Feel free to follow my lead

Dear Catfish,

I don’t know what made you think I wouldn’t expose you.
I have written books about predators like you. I don’t
know what you’re thinking, but know this; it’s
not going to end well.

You could be honest in your words yet you choose
to use someone else’s. You could be honest by posting your pictures
and let the world see your face, yet you use pictures
of other to hide behind, causing more victims.

You prey on caring people for the thrill of it.
You gain a persons trust to ultimately break it.
You take pleasure in others pain when you should
be looking into yourself to figure out why your life
is so empty.

Know this dear Catfish, I will friend you every time you
ask. I will post this letter every chance I get so others can see you, for who you really are.

There are a lot of people out there who don’t know any better
and will believe your lies.
Be assured, I will show them that you are nothing more than a fraud.

Now that you’ve been exposed for the lying, manipulating scourge that you are,
go back to your internet cafe and boot up your laptop, make another profile for me to
expose and know that I will not stop until you do.

Sincerely,

Not a Victim
(The link proving they are not who they say they are goes here) 😉

PS. If someone out there reads this and thinks they are the victim of a catfish , Please IM me and I’ll be happy to show you how easy it is to catch them.

Today’s Tease…2 Chicks and a Blog

Welcome! Pull up a seat and enjoy a chat with Today’s Tease Ashley Smith and Manda Gammons

Your Name:  Ashley Smith and Manda Gammons

Your Title:   Bloggers – 2 Chicks and a Blog

Link to your Blog:   http://www.2chicksnablog.blogspot.com

Welcome  AS & MG…I, LH have some questions for you 😉

LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?

AS:  I wanted to be a doctor .. but then I realized that I wasn’t meant to spend all that time in school

MG: Anything that involved kids or elderly, I thought the in between people were too crazy for me

LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. When did you decide that you wanted to be a reviewer and how did you get started?

AS:  I think we were talking with a group of girlfriends and we joked about starting a blog to talk about what books we liked .. and that was June 2, 2013 .. and now here we are!

MG: Ashley. She is the reason I started reviewing for the world to see. I would still be writing and reading and nobody would ever have heard my voice if it wasn’t for her.

LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Do you have a preference when it comes to published or Indie authors?

AS: ehhhh I guess it depends .. I like a good book.  If the author is published or indie or not doesn’t really matter .. but I can say that most of my favorite authors are Indie

MG: A good book is a good book either way. No matter if it’s self published or not. If it catches my attention, I am in it. From start to finish, I feel it. I don’t think it matters who published it at that point, all that matters is the story

LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies!      Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?

AS:  oh hell!  Ummmmm … I’d invite Robin Thicke and we would NOT discuss anything but him signing Blurred Lines!

MG: HAHA I would turn over my L card for the night and have Channing Tatum come over and we wouldn’t discuss anything. He would just dance like he does in step up. Yes please.

LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest contributors. Kind of ironic I know…Ever feel conflicted and if so, why?

AS:  The only time I feel conflicted is when I have to write a review for a shitty book.  It breaks my heart .. Authors put so much work into their books and for me to give a bad review is sad .. I feel conflicted like “do I really need to do this” .. but the answer is always yes ..

MG: I don’t get conflicted really. I get conflicted over bad reviews like Ash but honestly if you flip on the news there is going to be a death or somebodies panties on the front page of a magazine. At least when we read erotica, with the sex, and violence, there is usually some sort of HEA to make it worth it. In real life that is usually not the case.

LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?

AS:  in the blink of an eye .. ehh .. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that I would change the fact that fiction book boyfriends are just that .. fictional .. change that!!

MG: Make my BBF a reality and no more L card for me! No, honestly I would make every one equal.

LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online and what draws you to a book?

AS:  SUPER important .. if a cover looks boring I’m not buying it!

MG: The cover doesn’t have that much bearing on me. It’s more or less the synopsis and the recommendations from the Book Girls that I really listen to. And a lot of times we get ARC’s and we need to review them without the cover. So I just go with the flow.

LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! What drew you to reading and the reviewing?

AS: lack of a social life!  And having to speak my mind NO MATTER WHAT!

MG: I felt the need to escape reality a lot and so I would write about books in Journals all the time. Reading was my alternate reality. I can get lost in all of the books at one point or another and I would review them anyway, just now people read them and take my opinion in to account lol

LH: I send out book requests all the time and a lot of times don’t even get a reply back lol. What book did you get to review that you were like “OMFG” I can’t believe he/she wants ME to review his/her book?

AS:  Ok so I haven’t really had anyone OMFG say hey review my book .. but I have some serious author crushes .. Gail McHugh was blowing up my notifications and said she wanted to frame my conversation with another reader .. this was about Pulse!!  And when Pamela Ann sends me presents just cause .. and SE Hall, Brooke Cumberland and Angela Graham asking me to be a beta!!!  WOWZA .. total lady wood!

MG: When any author sends us or me anything I get like that. I get giddy like “omh they actually want to know what we have to say”… Pamela Ann will send us things and we get so pumped up. My favorite time was when Brooke Cumberland wanted us to review SPARK and we were all in a chat with her the whole time. She wanted to feel what we were feeling as we went along. It was awesome. She also did that with me with KITCHEN AFFAIRS and KITCHEN SCANDALS. It was phenomenal that I could share that with her. Every feeling I was feeling as we were going along.

LH: My favorite book of all times is hands down, The Notebook. What’s yours?

AS:  The Time Travelers Wife – hands down!!  The movie pissed me off

MG: I can’t say 1. I love books. I get lost in them, RRNV is up there. Pulse is up there, Anything Brooke, Anything Pamela Ann. God E.L James who started me into my Kink… I wouldn’t even know where to begin

LH: If you’ve ever read my blog, you’ve seen the page where I fight with Me, Myself and I…it really happens because I’m well, crazy like that. Do you ever fight over book reviews and if so…with whom?

AS:  Manda and I are almost always on the same page with reviews and book tastes .. We’re twin souls!!  But we CONSTANTLY fight over Pamela Ann’s Torn Series .. #TeamCarter!!

MG: BASSWHORE…. that’s all me… We don’t really argue over anything else.

LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?

AS: < ——- Angst Whore

MG: The obstacles that they have to get over to get through to the HEA. For example, In RRNF she has to overcome some horrific and painful obstacles before she actually gets to be with the love of her life. But once she is there, I like the thought of them getting through the problems together instead of apart.  I like feeling that it could be real. That one day I could meet a fancy billionaire and get married off… lol not so much really but hey, wishful thinkin’

LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. When do you know you are going to like a book or not?

AS:  First 4 chapters .. that is when I know .. When I hit that point I am either head over heals or not!

MG: First few pages and how it’s written. If I can put music with the scenes in my head, I know I can keep reading and make my own movie with lyrics in my head. I love music and I relate all books to songs (Spark-Brave)

LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol How many books do you review in an average week?

AS:  Ok soooo .. I am at least a book a day girl – I probably put out 7-10 reviews a week depending on the length of a book and if I get hooked

MG: Not enough…. probably 4… It depends on how much my job takes from me that week…. cause once I get sucked in, it’s difficult to stop. Even for sleep.

LH: I’m working on #6…3 are published and the other 3 are due out this year… How many books do you have in your queue to review? Are you taking on new books to review?

AS:  18 plus blog tours we have ARC’s for!  We always take new books!

MG: ^^^^ What she said 🙂 Also, we are starting to bring in author reviewers. We always accept new books.

LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Why do you review books?

AS:  Because I read them anyway and the best way to thank an author is to give a review!

MG: I am going to give my opinion anyway on a book I read. Why not have everyone else read it at the same time. I have a loud mouth and I like for people to know my opinions…. And if some day a girl/guy reads my review and decides to buy somebodies book, that means I have done a good job.

LH: I am actually afraid to ask for book reviews as I don’t like to bother people and am unsure of their reaction when I tell them the genre. Not everyone reads erotica? What is your least favorite genre and is there anything you will not review?

AS:  I will try anything once!  However, with that being said, I’m not a big fan of fantasy or paranormal

MG: No aliens. I can handle Erotica, Kink, Love, maybe even vampires… but I cannot get down with Aliens and paranormal.. or werewolves

LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?

AS:  That I started doing this sooner!

MG:Agreed

LH: If I could go back in time and tell someone something, I’d go back and tell the founding fathers they were doing a few things wrong…If you could go back in time and tell someone something, who would you tell and what would you tell them?

AS:  WOW .. I think I would tell my grandmother how much I loved her!!

MG:  I would tell my Rena not to worry about me.

LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. If someone you did a book review for said they were offered a movie deal and it was because of your review and they were going to use you in the credits, how would you feel? Who would you tell first?

AS:  HOLY MOTHER HELL!!!  I would jump up and down (I have no shame) .. I would tell Manda .. duhhhh

MG: Oh I would def ship my pants-1, and 2- I would call Ash… Sweet lord then the book girls….

LH: If you could go anywhere for a week, with anyone you wanted and no one would ever find out about it…where would you go, what would you do and who would you take?

Ashley – well… Isn’t this an interesting question!!  Ok .. so I would LOVE to go on vacation for a week with my Book Whores (Kim, Candy, Eri, Manda, Jodie, JJ, JC, JHJM, JM, Josie Christina, Brandi, and probably some others I forgot).  I want to go on a book boyfriend hunt, somewhere in Europe (that’s where Pamela Ann says all the smoking hot alpha males hang out).  Maybe venture into some crazy erotica club!!  Better yet, we should take Pam with us, just to be sure we don’t get lost!  I think that would be a super awesome vacation

Manda – I would take ERI, JJ, JH, JM, JC, BETHY, GLOBAL, ASH, KINK, CANDY, CHRISTINA, BRANDI, JODIE, JOSIE and whoever else I missed from our book girls grab a few of our Favorite Authors (Pamela, Brooke, Gail) and would honestly go anywhere, because when all of us girls even have a conversation it’s a good time. Imagine us all out somewhere living it up… It’s bound to be a party… and that’s what life is about.

Thank you for spending this time with us. Make sure to pop over to Ashley and Manda’s blog

Today’s Tease…Stewart Brodian

Welcome! Pull up a seat and enjoy a chat with Today’s Tease…Stewart Brodian

Your Name or Pen Name you use:  Stewart Brodian

Title of the book you are promoting:  I’m Not Snooki

Genre:  (it’s not autobiographical, or comedic or dramatic – if it were a recording, it would be called spoken word).

Welcome  SB…I, LH have some questions for you 😉

LH: I wanted to be a ballerina, race car driver and a private detective when I was little. What did you want to be when you grew up?

SB: When I was little: A freight train driver – later, a rock star

LH: I didn’t really have a literary influence, I just decided one day to start writing. Who influenced you in your writing career?

SB: Not who but what: It was a news story about the book Snooki published.  I was just so frustrated that such garbage could be published I just had to let it out somehow.

LH: I self published all of my books and was then “discovered” by a publisher. Are you an Indie or published author?

SB: I’m an indie – used to publish my own little newspaper called “NICKEL” it listed area open mic nights + had poetry and artwork.

LH: As an Indie Author, I was hesitant about being with a publishing company. If you are an Indie author, would you like to be published by a traditional publisher and if so, why or why not?
SB: If this was years ago, I’d want to be with a major – however, so many people who’ve been on major labels have said that it’s better to be indie have influenced me to say the same.

As an indie, you do have less restrictions thereby having the ability in attaining a larger and yet more diverse audience.

LH: This is easy for me…I’d invite Johnny Depp and I would not discuss movies!  Who would you invite to dinner, living or dead, and what one topic would you NOT discuss with them?

SB: Jesus, religion.

LH: I personally think that there is way too much sex and violence everywhere in society these days and it’s everywhere but that Hollywood is one of the biggest contributors.  Do you think that society as a whole is subjected to too much sex and violence and are you concerned about it? Ever feel conflicted and if so, why?

SB: Society is definitely over-subjected to sex and violence and MTV is one of its’ biggest culprits! (did you see that stupid performance by Miley Cyrus?!!!).

Of course I’m concerned about it.

There’s all these efforts to stop the spread of disease, teen pregnancy, degrading attitudes towards women (and, men for that matter) and (here I go, picking on MTV again,…) you see all this nonsense and plain immaturity in the depiction of sexuality – especially in music videos and this overabundance of reality shows.

Shock value seems to be what the producers are going for and, quite frankly, society has OD’d on it!  OK! WE’RE SHOCKED!!! Now Get On To Making Something Else!!!

LH: I’m a huge softy and by no means a beauty queen… lol but, I truly would want world peace in the blink of an eye if I could make it happen…If you could change one thing in the world, in the blink of an eye, what would it be?

SB: Realization is the only word that comes to mind – but, I’m not sure of what…

LH: With the traditional bookstore becoming obsolete and everyone turning to buying books online, I don’t buy the hype that “the cover is everything”. How important do you think book covers are now that almost all shopping is done online?

SB: A good cover or, some type of depiction, still catches the reader’s eye.

That’s just plain psychology.

LH: I can remember wanting to write as a kid. I got a really late start! Have you always wanted to write and when did you start?

SB: I can’t remember if I wanted to write when I was a kid.  One thing I know for sure, I was not a fiction reader.

I know I wanted to write songs when I was around 10 years old.

I wrote “I’m Not Snooki” when I was 49.

LH: I love to see if I can see myself in a character. What interests you most about a story?

SB: Oddly enough, the lead character in the TV show “Life On Mars” I found relateable.

It’s that person out of place type of thing – I also gravitated towards the lead character in Samurai Jack – always trying to figure out his place in the (situation) and hopefully getting to more right place.

LH: For me, I just get hit with this whole movie in my head and start writing. How do you come up with your stories?

SB: It’s been said that, the best way to come up with fiction is to simply take the truth and distort it. That’s what I did with my TV pilot.

Oddly enough, some of the fiction I made up in the pilot have come into reality.

For me, my creativity comes mostly out of frustration – yeah, that’s a sad thing to say.

Some people are inspired by happiness – that’s happened to me a few times!

LH: I can’t tell you or I’d have to…lol Are you working on anything now?

SB: I am always working on something – I just made a very short indie film the other day.  It’s only 44 seconds long!

I’m running my radio show as I am answering your questions (honest!).

But, in all honesty, I’m working on getting my TV pilot, “Double Or Nutin’”, on the air.

LH: I’m working on #6…3 are published and the other 3 are due out this year… How many books have you written? How many have been published?

SB: I’ve only written one book – I have published about 28 issues of my indie newspaper over a ten year period.  Some of my poetry has been published here and there.

In 1996, I made a spoken word CD: “Misplaced Messiah”.

LH: I write for fun I don’t even dream of riches…Do you write for fun or money?

SB: I wrote “I’m Not Snooki” in the hopes of bettering society

LH: Some of my family members had a bit of a problem with me writing my first book “A Beautiful Liar” because the character Maggie West is basically me…to a point 😉 They had a problem with the genre and me “putting it all out there” so to speak so I took a pen name. They eventually came around as I have never cared who knows who I am what I’ve done or what they think of me. I’ve never wanted to be famous, just infamous! What has been your biggest problem when it comes to family or friends when writing?

SB: Hmmn,.. When I first started writing – like things for the campus newspaper – it seemed nobody picked up on what I wanted to get across.

And, there was always, that hard question: “What are you trying to say?”.

I never knew how to answer that question.

These days, there are no real problems.

When I don’t know something/get stuck, I just research what I’m looking for and then (whatever) hits me and I can continue to create.

LH: I have never experienced writers block…I have experienced writers “don’t want to”… Have you ever experienced writers block and if so, how did you overcome it?

SB:  When I started to publish my newspaper, I knew it would
drive my creativity away from my music writing.
I comforted myself in the thought that I’m still doing something creative for people.

I don’t think I’ve had writers block since I was about 18.

Situations and life itself (my surroundings) simply have to improve so that I can write.

Even though there are things going on in different intensities all around and in my life, I just try to section off all the different bits and leave different thought processes to each category.

Sometimes, different aspects from one category are found to be useful to another category.

In life, you sometimes have to approach things from a different perspective.

LH: I get asked all the time “Do you have any advice for new writers?”… Do you?

SB: Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

LH: I would not change one thing in my life as I would not be me if I did… If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, what would it be?

SB:  Kept my mouth shut more often and ignored a few more people

LH: I would freak out if someone contacted me and said they wanted to make one of my books or my series of book into a movie as I am really very shy in person and I’d probably go into hiding. I don’t think I could handle it. How would you handle it? Who would be the first person you told?

SB:  I already have, in the back of my mind, the idea of making my TV show into a movie.

LH: I can remember loving music since I was a little girl…when did your love of music start?

SB: Ask anyone who knew me way back when and they’ll tell you:  I’ve been singing since I was a little kid!

LH: I have no artistic talent other than writing. I have heard you play and I must say you are AMAZING! Are you self taught or did you take lessons and either way, how long did it take you to learn?

SB:  I took elementary piano one when I was in college – while I was learning piano, I start to teach myself how to pay guitar.

I was playing guitar in front of friends within three weeks of learning the instrument.

LH: I love music of all kinds. I have my headphones on all day long and when I’m writing, I’ll find a song or two and set in a loop to play until I finish the book. What kind of music do you listen to when you are not playing?

SB: Ragtime/1920’s music, rockabilly, big band,.. maybe some folk,…

LH: I have way too many favorite songs. I’ve been that way all my life. It would probably be different if I played music. What is your favorite piece to play?

SB: On guitar: Stray Cat Strut! On piano “WWI Flying Ace” (one of my own compositions)

LH: Inspiration just kind of “hits” me. Where do you find your inspiration?

SB: Just like you, it can happen anytime and anywhere – things I see or read, places I go, and people I meet.  A truck zoomed past me when I was waiting to pull out on a highway and boom!  There was an inspiration for a song (luckily, I had my tape recorder with me!).

There’s been very few times when someone told me to write a song and  did.

LH: I can remember wanting to be a movie star when I was a little girl, but alas…

How did you get into this business?

SB: I was watching MTV back in 1983 and JJ Jackson said “Billy Joel wants you to be in his video”.

There was a number on the screen, I called it + they told me where to be and how to dress. (“Tell Her About It” video).

Nothing until 1990.  Someone I knew in high school worked on Up All Night With Gilbert Gottfried and asked me to do a musical stint on one of his shows.

Then Joe Franklin (1991) then Rikki Lake (1992) and well,…….. (see my website)

LH: I’ve heard that modeling/acting/show business is stressful and demanding. How do you handle the pressure?

SB: I tell myself that I thrive on it – then, it seems I can’t get enough of it.

After the whole day is done, decaffeinated tea!

LH: I detest having my picture taken! What’s the toughest part of getting models/actors to do what you want them to do?

SB: I’ve never had that problem.  I’ve been very lucky to work with the professionals that I’ve worked with.

LH: I write books and can be found all over the web…Give me a list of your favorite accomplishments.

SB:  In 1999, I learned to play the violin.  Somehow, when I did that, everything else that I’ve done before seemed to have no significance.

All I ever wanted to do with my life was to learn how to play the violin.

LH: I’m working on a secret project…Do you have any upcoming projects that you’d care to share?

SB:  I just finished making a very short film – only 44 seconds long.

That will be on the next episode of my cable TV show, Brodian’s Basement, in October.

LH: I LOVE to shoot pool to unwind and relieve stress. What do you do to wind down?

SB: Sitting back with my 6 string!

LH: A long those lines…When I was very young, I worked in the Special Events department at Caesars Tahoe and got to stay after a billiards tournament with Willie Mosconi and Minnesota Fats to knock around a few balls. It was one of my favorite memories from my time there. What is your favorite celebrity story?

SB: I met The Breeders when they played Philly – they were really cool!

Thanks for that fun and informative interview SB…Now… for the fun stuff!

Favorite Beverage?  Raspberry tea with lemon

Exercise or Bubble Bath? (Whatever you want to bring, sweetheart 🙂 😉 🙂

Favorite Color? Brown

Take out or Dine in? Take out

Camping or Hotel? Hotel

Sports or Chocolate? (I don’t care for either)

Dogs or Cats? I prefer dogs but, cats don’t seem to have a problem with me

Favorite Food? Tuna fish

Favorite Song? Ain’t She Sweet

Favorite Movie? (as a kid: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – as an adult: Patton)

Favorite Car? Anything made by Chevrolet

Sex or Chocolate? (The answer “Both” is totally acceptable 😉 – well, since I said I don’t care for chocolate,…

And now for the essay part of the interview 😉

LH: If you could go anywhere for a week, with anyone you wanted and no one would ever find out about it…where would you go, what would you do and who would you take?

SB: This question was answered in 2002 – I spent a week in Paris.

I walked along the Siene River, visited the museums, the sights, the Paris Auto Show, I visited the Bordeau region – met a nice lady there and spent the day with her.

Then, I took one day out to go visit London! (Madame Tussaude’s + rode around London on a double decker bus!)

Oh, what the heck, I do stuff like this all the time – weather I tell anyone or not!

The events described in the book occur amidst complicated changes in the political and economic system of the former Soviet Union. This is a period of great turmoil for the country and the people. A period of many broken destinies, and uprooted lives.
The book weaves its story within the discord of the country. Fear is growing, an animal fear. There remains only one way–emigration. An evacuation without bombing and without the ability to come back, the author writes. You cannot give a better definition.
The rest you will need to read. Because of this, the book delivers multifaceted, versatile content in huge volume to the reader’s range of vision. In some special moments, the author makes us breathless, frantic with worry, and hoping to relax if a satisfactory solution of the situation arrives.

About the Author
